Observation Narrative ? Plot is located in a one-hectare marsh-like wetland in the floodplain of Mill Creek in a narrow mountain valley. It is connected with a toe-slope seepage area of similar floristic composition (see plot BATH003). Unlike the toe-slope seep, the flat, permanently saturated marsh has more likely been enhanced, or even created, by past disturbance. Buried logs in parts of the wetland suggest a very old beaver pond, or some type of anthropogenic alteration. Nevertheless, it seems likely that a large wetland of some kind has always existed here due to an abundance of groundwater discharging from the base of adjacent slopes. A seepage swale that runs from one toe-slope seep to the bank of Mill Creek runs through the center of the plot. The vegetation of the marsh is somewhat coarser and taller than that of the toe-slope seep.
